House Projects: Bathrooms

When we bought our house over 5 years ago we said the first thing we would redo would be the master bathroom, not only does it have carpet, it is done is classic mid 90's teal and pink with gold accents!  Needless to say it has still not been done.  We did lighting throughout the house, installed hard wood floors on the main level, replaced the carpet on the second level, moved the laundry room to the basement, created a pantry, replaced the kitchen floor and added a glass tile back splash and multiple landscape projects too.

Earlier this year I noticed a house for sale in Five Parks neighborhood and realized that the prices in that neighborhood had dropped drastically, so we call up our neighborhood realtor and asked her to show us the house.  She arranged for us to see 6 different homes for sale in the neighborhood.  We were really excited.  We have payed down our current mortgage so much that we could easily move up in house without increasing our mortgage payment.  However, viewing the homes was very disappointing we were shocked with the low quality finishes that were prevalent, and found that carpeted bathrooms were still the normal, we did see one in the condition and finishes we expected  but it cost over 100k more than the rest and was on a patio lot!  I don't think I am out of line to expect high end finishes in homes in the half million dollar price range.

This exercise was good for us, it made us realize that even though it is tight in our standard two car garage that we really did like our current situation: good neighbors, good location, good house.  We were not willing to go back on what we had gained and decided to do the last little bit of remodel in our current home.  For now the plan is to stay so we decided to get the last few projects done.  We decided to do all three bathrooms in 2012 and started with the second full bath and then moved on to the half bath on the main level and after our beloved camping season we will finally tackle the master bath!
Kids bath: ceramic tiles, vanity, marble counter, under mounted sink, and mirror

Half Bath: Remodel supplies, hardwood floor and marble tiles

Half Bath: Marble tiled wall...practice for the master
